Global Talk #10: Intercultural learning and diversity in (literature) class. In conversation with Baobab Books

22.03.2022 16:00  – 17:30

How can intercultural learning and diversity be stimulated through literature? In Global Talk #10, the Basel publishing house Boabob Books asks itself exactly this question and presents concepts and ideas on how cultural diversity can be depicted in international children's and young adult literature. In the Global Talk we take a closer look at the books and approaches of Baobab Books, reflect on them and also discuss the publisher's communication strategies.

Boabab Books Verlag, which operates as an association, publishes children's and young people's literature from all over the world with a special focus on the works of indigenous peoples in order to support cultural diversity in the book market. The books are translated into German on the one hand, but there are also multilingual works. The aim is to promote intercultural reading skills and to make unique books from other countries visible. In order to promote intercultural dialogue, the publishing house offers diverse and innovative projects to promote reading and literature. These include reading animations for school classes, teaching materials, workshops and training courses in Germany and abroad. In addition, the association has set itself the goal of acting fairly and producing the materials ecologically.

Guest: Sonja Matheson of Baobab Books

The event took place on Zoom.
