Global Talk #3: Education for Sustainable Development – A navigator for our teaching?

In this Global Talk we’ll gather educationists from New Zealand, Chile as well as schools and CSOs from the greater Munich area and el mundo students to discuss value-based matters when teaching within the ESD framework. The overall goal is to learn from each other‘s knowledge, our various backgrounds, perspectives and experience.
This Global Talk will focus on questions of values in teaching such as the following: Which values are driving our actions? What is our personal and collective "value compass" that navigates our personal and/or educational decision-making? What is important for us? But also: How much do our values show in our teaching? How strong is the overlap? Where are and should be limits to value-based teaching? What are boundaries?

Caroline McCartney is an educator at Laingholm Primary School in Auckland, New Zealand. They base their sustainable ethics on the traditional Maori beliefs of land care and respect, link their education to global issues and interact strongly with their local communities .

Martín Bascope is an assistant professor at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Centro UC Desarrollo Local (Campus Villarica). His research focuses on transdisciplinary place-based educational approaches, through project based learning approaches to tackle sustainability issues and researches in the field of ESD.
