Global Talk #4: Digitization vs. Sustainability - a dilemma for schools and teachers?

15.01.2021 15:00  – 17:00

The process of digitization opens up the vision of a better and more sustainable world. It stands for innovation, participation and creativity. It is the basis for networking, exchange, diversity and prosperity - also in education.

However, it is almost never about aspects of sustainability and global justice. The focus is mostly only on the question of how (!) Digital technologies should be used in teaching and teaching.
At the same time, individual voices warn that digitization is accelerating the global consumption of energy and resources enormously. The basis of digital consumption is rarely linked to ethical questions and thought in the context of planetary boundaries. The WBGU emphasizes vehemently that paths to a digital sustainability society still have to be found. But how can education participate in this search for sustainable paths? Which value compass is it based on?

These and other questions will be taken up in Global Talk #4 and discussed with Dorothea Kessler from iFixit Europe, Sebastian Ring from JFF and teachers from the Munich Technical School.

The event will take place on Zoom. If you would like to participate, please register by sending an email to elmundo@lmu.de.
